Creativity and the desire to succeed are two of the traits of 47 year old Rosario. She is married and the mother of 4 children between the ages of 15-23. She is well known in her community for her embroidered traditional textiles. She is never seen sitting around with her arms folded! During this challenging year of the pandemic, she has been looking for additional ways to earn income. Rosario is now using the “cross stitch” method of embroidery and her textiles are turning out beautifully! She also is raising poultry. Her income has supported the high school education of 2 of her children while the rest are still studying. She is requesting a KIVA loan to buy high quality thread in bulk and a large quantity of baby chicks.
Rosario is the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Guadalupe Uno”. There are 8 other ladies in the group who have tortilla shops and traditional textile businesses, sell chocolate filled fruits, and raise animals. They are highly motivated to participate in the “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and health care services. Their monthly educational trainings are about health, family matters, women’s issues and effective business management skills. Every other month, they have access to health care.
From a rural area in the department/state of Quetzaltenango, Rosario and her friends send their gratitude to KIVA investors from all parts of the world for funding their loans!
