I am a Tolowa Native American who grew up in Hawaii and started in restaurants at 18. I knew this was the industry I wanted to be in and one that I was really passionate about. At 25 I started a Salsa company on two islands in Hawaii and even got into Whole Foods! I dissolved the Salsa company and decided to take my Ukulele and my backpack to SF in 2010 to work with some of the best Bartenders in the world. Eventually, I went back to Kauai to open my own space and put together business plans for a few different concepts that never came to fruition. I bartended in LA, opened a place back in Kauai, and then had an opportunity to work and live in New York City and stayed there for 2 years working in Fine-Dining establishments. Finally, I went to North Carolina, and about 6 months into being there, I knew I needed to change my drinking lifestyle and decided to take a year off consuming alcohol. Best. Year. Ever!
It brought me back to San Francisco and now I help others in Early Recovery and have boundless energy, drive, and motivation every day. I am finally using the talents and full potential I always knew I had but alcohol had kept me from.

Ocean Beach Cafe is a Local / Organic California Cuisine and very active Free Delivery to the Beach! Woodworking Decor from my Father who is a Master Woodworker will create an amazing Look & Feel and ambiance from the Parklet Outside, to Live Music and quality eats coming from the inside.
Friendly Customer Service and epic products curated by those with significant experience in the wants and needs of the current food and beverage demographics will attract and retain customers in this community and will also market to tourists at this busy beach and hiking Area.
We offer the Largest NA Selection in the World which is a very progressive concept that we are very excited about. There is a tidal movement of Low to No Alcohol Beverage Movement happening right now. We will have these Non-Alcoholic Beverages right next to an amazing Beer & Wine selection which will create a lot of conversations about the shift in drinking culture that is happening.
So far, we have the only Espresso machine in the area, bagels, sandwiches, bowls, smoothies and snacks, and more that cater to the health-conscious community.
We are very excited and eager to open our doors officially in January 2021. This loan with Kiva will give me the last push to realize this dream.
What is the purpose of this loan?
Traditional lenders don't see my past financial history is suitable for lending. I have worked so hard on getting my credit to a good place and show I can do this, but they are hesitant. But I am so determined and have a strong mindset that nothing is going to stop me.
This loan literally helps get this Cafe off the ground by allowing me to get the lease starting Jan 2021. We negotiated $1,138 monthly rent during Covid-19 and the lease is first and last: $2,276
It also helps buy materials to makeover the existing space and have local artists and friends who are willing to volunteer to help make this an attractive and inviting place for the community.
This loan helps us buy our initial Food, Beverage, and TO GO inventory so we can start making sales!
We are also looking to build the main feature of the business which is building a Parklet (outdoor dining in 2 parking spaces) with help from my Dad, Ron who is a master woodworker and Native American Artist.
The E-Bike! We are also excited to provide Free Delivery to the Beach and surrounding parking lots and this loan will help us buy the E-Bike that will also double as mobile signage.
The Cafe was a Deli for 7 years and is full of equipment that works! We are negotiating terms with the previous owner to buy the equipment for pennies on the dollar and this loan will go to make a down payment for this equipment so we can make monthly payments after generating sales.
