42-year old María and her four children live in the suburban area of Fortín de Guayaquil. To help with family expenses María spent her savings on notebooks and a display cabinet. She altered her house so there would be space to build a small store.
Gradually with hard work and dedication she and her children built up the business so that now she has a store selling school supplies and everyday basic necessities. She works from 6:30 am to 11pm every day. Now María wishes to invest in a photocopier; she plans to use the loan for this purchase. Her future plans include finishing building her house and expanding her store.
