This group, made up of seven women, is part of the banc villageois founded on the outskirts of the city in May, 1997.
They live in the same neighborhood, are all related and are very dynamic. They conduct several income-generating businesses, but the main ones are fattening livestock and small trade.
Madam Marie Philomène is the group representative. She is 73 years old, at the left in the photo, raising her hand. She is a widow and the mother of six children, of whom two boys are all grown up.
Madam Marie Philomène runs a business fattening pigs, buying and reselling these pigs in her neighborhood. At the same time, she sells dyed fabrics that she purchases in a bordering country. She is very skilled in this area, with a total of more than twenty years valuable experience.
She is going to buy two pigs and their feed to increase her livestock and, for her small business, ten boubous [kaftans] of dyed Thioub fabric and pay for the transport. Her business is working, as she is making good profits. Her earnings allow her to increase her savings and contribute to her health insurance program.
