A loan helped to stock more maize flour, g-nuts, and beans to sell.

Richard's story

Richard is 40 years old and lives in the town of Katakwi in the Soroti region of Uganda. He is married and has six children who are all currently in school. For the past five years, Richard has been working hard to manage her produce store, which sells maize flour and beans.

To help expand his business, he has requested a loan of 1,500,000 UGX (Ugandan Shillings) from BRAC Uganda. The loan will be used to stock more maize flour, g-nuts, and beans to sell, and will help him to generate greater profits. His production will increase and attract more revenue, and he will manage to provide basic needs for his family like food and clothes for his children. Richard hopes that in the future he will be able to build a commercial house for his family.

Richard is a member of BRAC's Small Enterprise Program (SEP). The program primarily serves small entrepreneurs like Richard who do not have enough collateral for commercial loans, but have businesses that have grown too large for micro-loans.

This loan is special because:

It provides financial services in some of the poorest parts of Uganda.
