Editorial Destellos is in the business of creating lifelong readers and learners through the production of beautiful, enriching, and engaging books for children and youth. We believe that reading can and does change children's lives and the way they see and interact with the world around them. Which is why the content that is created for them is so important. The idea for Editorial Destellos was born in late 2017 after the onslaught of hurricanes Irma and maria forever changed the life of millions of Puerto Ricans on and off the island. Our first picture book tells the story of a young girl as she and her family live the days immediately before, during, and after the hurricanes. It's a story of loss, hope, friendship, and resilience. Editorial Destellos operates in Puerto Rico and our books, we now have 5 titles, are sold in independent bookstores throughout the island as well as in Walmart, sams, Costco and Walgreens stores. Our titles are also carried at the online retailer www.Libros787.Com and the Brooklyn-based online children's book store www.Chauluna.Com.
What is the purpose of this loan?
Funds from a second loan will go towards the production cost of 6 new titles which are currently in process; 3 picture books, a middle-grade novel, and a high school/young adult novel, as well as marketing and personnel costs. After repaying our original $10,000 loan, we're working hard to grow our business and to expand our presence to bookstores in the mainland us and other markets.

Flexible: any funds raised within 30 days will be passed along to the Lending Partner facilitating the loan and they will come up with other sources of funding to cover the rest of the loan amount.
What does "Partner covers currency loss" mean & how could it affect my Kiva loans?
When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
