A loan helped to purchase foodstuffs such as palm oil, oil, rice, pepper, onions, chicken, fish and Maggi seasoning to increase her business.

Zainab's story

Greetings from Sierra Leone! This is 40-year-old Zainab from Wilberforce branch. She is married with two children between the ages of 16 and 22 years old and both of them are attending school. She started this business to support herself and care for her family's welfare.

Zainab runs a retail business and sells cookery (a type of stew), fry-fry (a type of street food) and other assorted items. She has been in this business for 6 years. Her other source of income comes from her husband’s business. Her main challenge is slow sales sometimes during COVID-19.

She requested a loan through BRAC Sierra Leone to purchase food stuffs such as palm oil, oil, rice, pepper, onions, chicken, fish and Maggi seasoning to increase her business.

Zainab says that the extra income from this loan will help to improve her business and take care of her family. In the future, she would like to expand her business to a larger scale. She says thanks to BRAC and Kiva for their support.

This loan is special because:

It provides access to funding in areas where there are limited alternative sources of finance.
