A loan helped startup costs for a women-owned wellness studio focused on bridging the gap in health services.

Samantha's story

For the last 10 years, I have found peace for my mind and my body through my yoga practice. I knew that it was something I wanted to share with others, so I completed my yoga teacher training and began teaching classes in my community in Little Rock, Arkansas. Over the past 4 years, I have had the opportunity to teach in a variety of settings, including yoga studios, gyms, and mental-health facilities.
Around the time I started teaching, my business partner and I created a nonprofit organization called Yoga in the Rock. We saw a huge need for accessible wellness in our community, and wanted to provide yoga classes that could meet everyone where they were at in an environment that was safe and welcoming - no matter the color of their skin, their religious affiliation, or their physical limitations. These classes are donation-based and set in public parks, which has allowed us to serve a diverse population (many of whom had never practiced yoga or been in a studio before). I teach many people who are struggling with behavioral and mental health issues who have responded greatly to yoga and mindfulness practices; this has energized my passion for sharing yoga alongside our non-profit organization. I am passionate about sharing wellness opportunities because it has personally impacted my life to such a degree that I have been forever changed. I want others to have opportunities to experience wellness practices such as yoga, meditation, and mindfulness methods that can prove deeply transformative not only with the physical body, but with all aspects of day to day living. My life’s mission is to share what I have learned and curate a collective network of people inside our yoga studio space to give our local community the most access to wellness modalities.
