A loan helped to buy pandanus from Ha'apai for her weaving, and also pay for the exportation of their crop containers.

Toakase's story

Meet Toakase. She is 61 years old and married to a farmer with six children. They live in their own home with their four youngest only.

Toakase and her husband run two businesses, which are a plantation and weaving. She conducts her weaving with her daughter at their home. Not only that, she does weaving and she is also very good at decorating her weaving. Shown in her photo is a white mat that one of her customers hired her to design.

Her husband and her son take care of their plantation. They grow diverse crops such as taro, cassava and yams. Toakase spends her week days in her weaving business, and on Saturday, she does the marketing of their crops at the local market. One of her sons does the marketing during the week days. Her family has benefited from these two businesses for many years. They just harvested their crops and she applied for a loan to pay for the exportation of their two crop containers. She is also planning on buying pandanus. Toakase is one of the trusted clients of SPBD, based on her work and also her loan repayments.
