A loan helped to buy clay, mangrove liquids and other materials useful for her tapa making business.

Siokapesi's story

Meet Siokapesi. She is a mother of three children, and her husband is a farmer. They live in their own home, in the far Western area of Tongatapu island. Siokapesi operates her own tapa making business, and she is a member of a group of women in their village. They gather every Saturday in a hall and make tapas. They make lots and lots of tapas!

Siokapesi sells her tapas to her relatives overseas and also in the local market. Her business is the primary source of income for her family. Her husband shows his support to her business by planting and growing her own mulberry plantation. Siokapesi only applied for a loan to buy materials needed for her business such as clay, mangrove liquids and flour. She keeps her business running for only one purpose, and that is for the benefit of her family.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
