Alda N. C. was born in the city of Matola, in the province of Maputo in the south of Mozambique. She is 43 years old, married, and has 4 children who are 20, 16, 14 and 10 years old. The two younger children attend school. Alda only studied through 4th grade, and didn't continue because of her parents’ lack of financial resources. She lives with her family in their own house and doesn’t help support anyone else financially.
She left the city of Matola for a neighborhood near the Matola river when she was married. She has worked for more than 20 years on the janitorial staff of the Agricultural Institute of Boane. She doesn’t employ any help and has a monthly income of 3060 Meticais. She uses this income to cover household expenses and occasionally saves some in her bank account.
Alda has never taken out a loan with another bank. She found out about Hluvuku [the Kiva Field Partner] through colleagues who also work with the institution. This is her 3rd loan, for the amount of 12,000 Meticais. She plans to use this money to buy construction materials (cement, zinc plates, doors, door frames and other items) in order to continue with the construction of her home.
She promises to repay the loan as indicated in order to be eligible for other loans later. In the future she would like to apply for more loans to furnish her house and offer her family more comfortable living conditions.
