A loan helped to buy mulberry for her tapa making business.

Malia's story

Malia is a 36-year-old single mother of one son. She lives with her son at her parents' house. Currently, she joins a tapa making group of women in their village, and together they make tapas once a week. Malia sells her tapas at the local market. Not only does she make tapas to sell, but she also prepares soft tapas by beating the hard mulberry and selling it to the tapa group because some members do not have time to prepare soft tapa, and instead must buy the already softened tapa.

Malia gives her best to her business because she knows that her son depends on her to provide for him and that she is also responsible for her elderly parents. She is applying for a loan to buy enough mulberry for her business. Her dream is for her son to grow up and pursue a better life in the future. That can only happen if she gives him her support, and that is what she is working towards right now.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
