A loan helped to buy coir.

Nilmini's story

Nilmini is a 42-year-old married woman who lives with her husband, daughter and son (ages 23 and 20). She lives in the town of Hikkaduwa. She wants to earn some income, because she doesn't like to depend on others. She does not even like to depend on her husband for financial assistance. Her son is an army officer and her daughter is helping with coir making.

Nilmini has a coir (coconut-shell fiber) business, in which she takes the fibers of local coconuts and weaves them into household items like string, rope, and floor mats. She has two years of experience in this field.

Nilmini has requested a 55,000-rupee (LKR) loan from BRAC to buy some coir for the coir business. Currently she does not have the financial capital necessary to grow.
