Maya K’iche ’women have been neglected, discriminated against and generally ignored for a long time. Marta, a 25-year-old Maya K’iche woman, married and mother of 4 children (ages 3 to 13) is one of these women. She only attended school for 6 years. Marta, since she was quite small after school, helped with household chores and agriculture. A few years ago, she began to manage various businesses such as animal husbandry, agriculture (potato, tomato, cabbage) and the weaving of typical skirts "cuts". Both businesses are growing!
Marta is requesting their 1st KIVA loan to buy a variety of yarns for weaving and fertilizer and insecticide for agriculture.
Seven women are part of the Communal Bank of Puente de Amistad “El Paraiso” and live in the department / state of Quiché. They have businesses such as raising chickens, turkeys, pigs, agriculture and weaving typical "cuts" skirts. These women have had little education and therefore benefit greatly from the monthly educational trainings, which are part of the "Microcredit Plus" loan, education and health services program. They acquire effective business tools, learn about healthy habits, good nutrition, hygiene, and how to strengthen their businesses in these difficult times because of COVID 19.
