A loan helped us to build infrastructure in our farm to grow our family business.

Rogelio's story

We, Rogelio and Yesenia decided to start our farm after many years working as farm workers on other farms. We used to cut lettuce and plant onions for 10-12 hours a day, 6 days a week for minimum wage. We wanted to start a family and knew that we weren't earning enough money to do that. So in 2008 we made a decision to leave our lives as farm workers and start our own business. We named the business after my son, Rogelio Jr., who we hope will take over someday.

R&R Produce, our small family farm, is located in the fertile “Black Dirt” farming area in Orange County, New York. In 2008 with the help of GrowNYC/Cornell Cooperative Extension’s New Farmer Program, we went from farm workers to farm owners.

This loan is special because:

It helps a repeat Kiva borrower further expand their business.
