A loan helped me to provide package free alternatives for household and personal care products.

Stephanie's story

I had always considered myself to be reasonably eco-conscious. I was an early adopter of electric vehicles and worked in the electric vehicle charging industry for four years. As I was transitioning careers, I met a young woman that was opening her own "Zero Waste" shop in the Bay Area. I was fascinated by the concept and decided to try taking some modest steps to reduce my own family's waste. It was like a light went off and I started to see clearly just how wasteful our modern society is, but how easily making a few simple switches, such as using your own containers for bulk goods at a natural foods store, could mean putting out your curbside bin once a year instead of once a week.

I started researching and reaching out to manufacturers of environmentally friendly products, particularly household and personal care products that can be delivered in large containers to allow customers to refill their own containers and thus eliminating the need for dozens or new plastic bottles to be made each year. The concept is simple, but the impact is powerful.
