A loan helped us improve our financial position and resilience.

Michael's story

I grew up in New England and I've been working and playing outdoors since I could walk. As a young boy I explored my backyard creek and woods, and as I grew older I began exploring farther afield.
Focusing my energy on researching, restoring and caring for the land and natural systems that sustain us has always seemed like the right path, and it's been incredibly fulfilling to build a company that works to make our world a better place.

As lead ecologist at Adaptive Restoration, I plan and implement our restoration projects, from prescribed burns to native plant establishment. Additionally, I conduct native plant surveys, ecological assessments, and wetland delineations.
I hold a M.S. in Environment and Resources from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a B.S. in Environmental Science and Biology from Dickinson College. My graduate research focused on wetland restoration, native plant establishment and invasive species management. This work is published in Restoration Ecology, Invasive Plant Science and Management, and the Natural Areas Journal. I have over a decade of prescribed fire experience and my wildland firefighter training includes completion of The Nature Conservancy's Crew Boss and Engine Boss Academies. I've worked in the land management profession for over 20 years.
As a parent, partner and member of the community, I'm highly motivated to continue our work restoring some of Wisconsin's (and the world's) rarest ecosystems - prairie, savanna and wetlands.
