Coop Norandino's headquarters and focus of operations are in the rural, remote area of northern Peru helping small holder farmers improve their livelihoods. Many of their cooperative members are organic and fair trade certified, and with the support of Coop Norandino benefit from higher prices for their crops.
Since 2016, Coop Norandino has worked with Kiva lender to provide loans to over 1,800 people with more than $1.5 million lent through the Kiva platform. Coop Norandino is a cooperative that not only provides credit and savings services to some of the most remote communities in Peru, but also provides access agricultural trainings and access to export markets, which both result in higher prices for their crops.
While historically a stable and growing organization, Coop Norandino's operations have been severely impacted by the global COVID-19 crisis that led Peru to initiate a nationwide lockdown. This resulted in a reduction of Coop Norandino's ability to disburse loans and to receive repayments on the loans they disbursed before the crisis.
