A loan helped to purchase groceries in wholesale quantities and increase her profit margin.

Abibata's story

Abibata is a 24-year-old entrepreneur who lives with her husband and two children in the Nanumba North district of Ghana. Abibata runs her own grocery business. With her previous Kiva loans, Abibata increased the range and stock of her business. She used the profit she earned to reinvest into the business and also take care of her family needs.

Abibata is requesting another loan to purchase groceries in wholesale quantities and increase her profit margin. She plans to use the profit she earns to support needy students by providing them with educational materials.

Abibata will repay the ‘social interest’ on her second loan by volunteering two and a half hours per week as a member of the CAMFED Association, using her expertise to mentor and support fellow CAMFED Association borrowers in her community to complete repayment of their loans. As a Loan Coordinator she has already successfully paid off at least one loan herself, so she understands the opportunities and challenges, and is uniquely positioned to help other CAMFED Association members succeed

This loan is special because:

It helps borrowers withstand negative economic impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic.
