Microfinanzas Prisma's story

Coop Microfinanzas Prisma operates in some of the most remote and difficult regions of Peru supporting primarily women and their families to improve their livelihoods. Many of their cooperative members are pursing alternative crops to coca farming as they live in areas once controlled by the cocaine drug trade.

Since 2017, Coop Microfinanzas Prisma has worked with Kiva lenders to provide loans to over 2,500 borrowers with more than $1.2 million lent through the Kiva platform. Coop Microfinanzas Prisma is a cooperative that not only provides credit and savings services to some of the most vulnerable communities in Peru, but also provides business training, micro-insurance, and access to improved farming knowledge.

While historically a stable and growing organization, COOPAC MF Prisma's operations have been severely impacted by the global COVID-19 crisis that led Peru to initiate a nationwide lockdown. This resulted in a reduction of COOPAC MF Prisma's ability to disburse loans and to receive repayments on the loans they disbursed before the crisis.
