My overall story of being small business in Colorado starts back in 2007. I am a returning Peace Corps volunteer that worked with women cooperatives as a Peace Corps volunteer. As a volunteer I saw away to continue to help in developing countries after I finish my service as a Peace Corps volunteer and started working with women weaver in Ghana. We produce 16,000 baskets a year and employee 500 weavers.
If I am not able to continue my work because of this Coronavirus 19 it will have far reaching impact on many lives.
For more than 15 years I have been at trade shows, and Farmers Markets to sell our baskets. I normally participate in the Trade show from Oct to April and my Farmers Markets from May to Oct every year. All of my Trade were cancel and the other ones were poorly attended do to the rumors of this virus that people were getting sick from as early as Nov 2019. The organizers of the farmers markets have told the vendors that at this time they are unsure of the months to come, whether aren’t we still have the markets this summer. Because of the Coronavirus 19 it has had very bad financial impact on my business.

I have been working with women cooperative for 25 years in Ghana. I travel to Ghana every year to work with the members of the Ti-a Woven Goods women’s cooperative. It is important that I have personal relationship with each members of the cooperative. It is important that I can convey to my customers how purchasing a Tia Woven Goods product impact the lives of the women in Ghana. Every visit I have been able to impact the lives in profound ways. In 2019 I was able to take 4 philanthropist to Ghana with me to share the experience. We raised money to support 2 schools educational materials for their students. This is just one of the many ways that Tia Woven Goods helps in Ghana.
In 2019 Our business won First prize for being the best exhibitor and having the most unique produces in the trade show. The Show was High Point International Furniture in High Point North Carolina. Tia Woven Goods will be featured in the High Point International catalog as the winner of the Fall Trade show. Our plan was to go back to the Spring show and to be show cased as the winner.

When lending internationally, the local currency in a borrower's country may lose some of its value compared to the US dollar -- requiring the partner to use more of its local currency to repay Kiva in USD. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
