A loan helped to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and make more profits from sales to support her family.

Christine's story

Wonderful community of Kiva, Christine is a 25-year-old mother of seven children who is very hardworking and determined to succeed. She has always dreamed of a more comfortable lifestyle. She is a smallholder farmer who works with a lot of care and perseverance to achieve her objectives. Today, she has a farm where she grows crops and raises livestock; she also earns additional income from a personal business. Christine lives in Matuu with her husband and children. In this region, job opportunities are very scarce and the level of poverty has hit the moon. Christine is seeking a loan to purchase farming inputs such as high-nutrient fertilizers and certified seeds, to improve her farm yield and make more profits from sales to support her family.

She is optimistic that this year's harvest will be better than last season's. Income from her dairy business will be used to make initial loan repayments until the crops are harvested and sold. Most microfinance organizations, particularly in her area of Kenyadon’t give loans to smallholder farmers, but Juhudi Kilimo is standing out and is different. Juhudi Kilimo is expanding into this market and is happy to provide Kiva lenders with the opportunity to support Kenyan smallholder farmers. Christine is very thankful for your warm consideration.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
