John Francisco P. C. is 46 and lives with his wife and 3 children, ages 8-10 on Via Polonuevo, town of Santa Tomás. There people are friendly, hospitable, happy and especially welcoming. John has a business of buying, raising and selling pigs and goats. He is using his first loan with the Santo Domingo Foundation of $2,000 to buy young pigs and food for them, such as purina, corn and soy.
In the past John bought whole hogs and goats by the pound to sell the meat, but little by little he started buying the animals to fatten, breed, select and sell-which is what he now does on his pig farm.
His big dream is to have the capital to buy animals to fatten and then slaughter. Another one of this dreams is to have aqueducts in 100% of his pens. For John summer gives him his biggest challenges for his crops of yucca, corn and millet don't do well, and these are the main foods needed to fatten the animals. He also loses the grass and his production drops 70% of the feed. Then John has to pay cash and it's more expensive to keep up the quality, especially of his goats.
However, he always lives happily and enjoys his farm which is very close to Santo Tomás, a town famous for its religious tourists during Holy Week.
