The Communal Bank “Tres de Mayo de Poroy” is led by Sra. Vilma who serves as president, Yovanna who serves as secretary, Ana María who serves as treasurer, and Martha who serves as auditor. The members meet every thirty days at the microfinance offices of Asociación Arariwa in the city of Cusco. The Communal Bank is currently in its fourth loan cycle and consists of 11 hardworking and enterprising individuals who look at each moment as an opportunity to get ahead and provide their children with a better future.
Some examples of the businesses the members are engaged in include buying and selling sheep, producing handicrafts, selling fruit, buying and selling small animals, selling vegetables and stews, and selling groceries. Others work in service positions such as nutritionists, transport drivers, dental technicians, and teachers.
Cornelia is 60 years old and a single mother of five children. She sells vegetables at the central market in Cusco. Cornelia says that she leaves for the market around 5am and stays until 6pm. She needs a loan to buy products such as clams, potatoes, fish eggs, and other items to sell for Holy Week. Cornelia has been a vendor at the San Pedro Market since 1969. She has participated in the Communal Bank for five years and has performed very well as a result of her timely and responsible payments.
The members value and appreciate the loan that has been provided to them and promise to make their payments on time.
Cusco is a city known for its archaeological sites, historical center, landscapes, and history. It is a charming city located in the southern part of the country.
