A loan helped to buy silk thread, dyeing color, and materials for weaving silk cloth.

Wilai's story

Wilai lives with her husband, daughter, and grandchild in a Khmer community in the Northeast region of Thailand. Apart from planting jasmine rice, she learned to weave silk cloth because she needed to earn more monthly income.

The silk cloth is very popular in her village. Most people love to use and wear the cloth in a traditional ceremony. Therefore, Wilai planned to expand the business and then applied for the Kiva loan to buy silk thread, dyeing color, and materials for weaving silk cloth. Generally, a customer comes from both inside and outside the village to buy her product.

The loan would help her to expand the business as well as support the woman in a rural area. In the future, she dreams to own a small shop selling the silk products in her village.

This loan is special because:

It helps women living in rural areas improve financial literacy and invest in their businesses.
