A loan helped to buy mulberry for her tapa making business.

Staphine's story

Staphine is a 41-year-old mother to six children, and a wife to a farmer. Together they live at their own home, with only their four youngest.

Staphine is running a business of tapa (barkcloth) making. She joins a group of tapa making women in their village, and they conduct their tapa making, only once in every week. Together they make different types and size of tapa, and Staphine decorates her own tapas and send it to her relatives overseas. This has been her family's main source of income for decades.

She is hoping to use her loan money to buy mulberry for her tapa making, so she could be able to make lots of tapas. She plans to plant her own mulberry plantation, starting at the beginning of next year.

This loan is special because:

It provides women with credit in a country where alternative financing is extremely scarce.
