A loan helped to buy farm inputs like high-quality seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers to improve her production and meet the overwhelming demand for food in her remote village.

Irene's story

Hello, Kiva community! Meet Irene, a hardworking, determined woman and great achiever. She is a rural smallholder farmer from the Nyamira area of Kenya. Her family's main revenue source is milk from their dairy farm. However, she also participates in some side business to complement her meager income.

The biggest problem faced by farmers from her village is the huge discrepancy in their access to agricultural inputs, resulting in lower output and earnings for farmers than what they could be. To fix this problem, Juhudi Kilimo has partnered with Kiva to provide financial services to smallholders around Kenya. Through these financial services, farmers like Irene can take out loans and purchase farm inputs.

Irene is humbly seeking a loan to buy farm inputs such as fertilizer and high-quality seeds. Your loan will enable her to improve her production through the use of quality farm inputs. Irene’s competitive advantage in the market will be evident after she receives this loan. Through this intervention, she will be able to afford food for her loving family.

She thanks Kiva lenders for their kindness.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals, farm inputs and farming equipment.
