Lakisha's story

I was born and raised in Baltimore City. I am the mother of two adult sons and the wife of a returning citizen who served over 20 years in prison. When I was 14, I got pregnant with my oldest son and everybody counted me out. I was able to stay in high school and graduate from the oldest public all-girls high school in the nation thanks to the sacrifice of my mother. She quit her job and started a daycare so my friends and I could finish school. She is one of my biggest motivators.

I am currently a college student, working toward earning my Bachelor's degree in Entrepreneurship. I also volunteer for various organizations around the city. I pride myself on giving back to my community in whatever ways I can.
My goal is to create a legacy for my sons because there are not a lot of opportunities for young, black boys in our city. I also want my business to serve as a beacon of light in a community that has been filled with darkness and despair.
