A loan helped to acquire additional beehives.

Huda's story

Huda, age 39, is married to a bus driver, with eight children (age 6-20), and lives in Shuafat in North Jerusalem. She has recently successfully started a beekeeping and honey business, with ten beehives in her back yard sustained from local olive groves. This is a unique operation in East Jerusalem (she believes), which is proving popular with local shops. She now seeks to expand her business to a total of 40 hives: with ten additional hives in her yard, and others sited amongst the olive trees (rent free). She needs to borrow NIS 12,000 to establish the additional hives, and a further NIS 6,000 for additional equipment. Huda has received bee-keeping and general business training from MATI (the training partner of the Jerusalem Interest-free Microfinance Fund). Expanding her business will help her to develop herself and to contribute to her family’s income.
