Fatmata K (first on the left), is the featured borrower of Fatmata's Master Farmers group. She is a Master Farmer in Rokupr village and has a family of seven. Fatmata was married at a young age, but has worked hard to build a good 2-acre smallholding with rice as her main crop. She is a proud leader of female farmers in the community, and regularly organizes women's activities.
Despite being a seasoned farmer, she had her farm devastated during Sierra Leone's 2014-2016 Ebola crisis, like many in her village. She refuses to give up despite losing a lifetime of work. She has organized a large group of other women. These women, who had also prospered before the crisis, lost everything and yet still will not give up.
All the members are currently trapped in a cycle of subsistence farming and take extremely high-interest loans for poor quality inputs during planting time. A no-interest Kiva loan will enable this group of determined women to get back on their feet and back in business.
