Lourdes, who is a teacher, is also the President of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank "San Juan Bautista." She is 29 years old, married and has 2 children (3 and 10). The eldest child is in the 4th grade. Her husband owns a mini-bus and transports people around the department of Retalhuleu. Lourdes is only able to teach on an interim basis, and provides additional income selling vegetables, corn, bananas, and firewood. A year ago with her profits, she began a fish farming business with 2 pools. Lourdes is requesting her first Kiva loan to buy corn and fish farming materials.
Besides Lourdes, there are 9 other members in the Trust Bank. Their average age is 35 years with some having either a primary or secondary education. All are small business owners selling snacks, tamales, spices, women's sandals, or having a stand selling chicken meat. They look forward to their monthly meetings where they make loan payments, participate in educational sessions, or learn about good health care practices, all part of the "Microcredit Plus" program of loans, education and healthcare. Lourdes feels the sessions on good business administration and avoiding over-indebtedness have been extremely beneficial.
All the members of "San Juan Bautista" are grateful to KIVA investors for your generous support of their businesses. Thank you for helping to provide brighter futures for these women!
