Isaac Alexandre M. was born in the town of Namaacha on the border with Swaziland. He is married and is the father of two children, a 9-year-old daughter and a 4-year-old son. The daughter is in elementary school, and the son is in preschool. Aside from the children, he is responsible for his mother and a nephew who live with him, and he does not manage to save anything because he is still building his house and cannot count on help from his wife, who is unemployed.
Isaac completed school but did not attend college for financial reasons. After a year he got into teaching school, which he completed in two years and was employed in Boane. Because he was far from home and his family, he asked for a transfer to the town of Namaacha where he now teaches physical education in the mornings and math in the afternoons, earning 5,560 meticais per month. Six months after the transfer his salary of 35,000 meticais was paid retroactively, and he began building his own house. Because the price of materials rose, he could not finish the plastering and some parts of his veranda. He first approached Hluvuku asking for a loan of 12,000 meticais to buy a gas oven and a set of sofas, and he paid it off with no problems.
This is Isaac's third loan with Hluvuku and his first with Kiva. The first loan of 12,000 meticais was used to buy the oven and sofas. The second loan, for 6,000 meticais, was used to buy construction material, and this third loan of 15,000 meticais will be used for plastering and for finishing the veranda which he must have because of the climate. He is confident that he will pay the loan off ahead of schedule and ask for a new loan to pay for further education.
