The village bank 12 de Marzo is composed of 10 clients, 8 women and 2 men. The majority of the members live in the San Antonio Alto zone at the entrance to the Escobar Uria zone. They dedicate their time to the sale of food and clothes. They have met for training from Emprender 4 times during which all members were in attendance and none have a history of poor credit, or are considered risky.
Señora Ana is the leader and, as president, is currently in charge of the group. She sells wheat on Gallardo street and has been doing this for the last 5 years. She plans to use her loan to invest in bulk wheat purchases but her goal is really to grow her business and sell a variety of groceries in a commercial center. She is married to Señor Wilfredo who works as a brick-layer. They have two children who depend on her. From the beginning of their training sessions, her village bank has identified her as a very responsible person since she always supported the other members and took the lead in coordinating the formation of the group. She was also a member of another bank a year ago in which she completed all her payments and took responsibility as a guarantor.
Señora Maria Del Carmen is the bank's treasurer and runs a toy business where she sews clothing for dolls and makes stuffed animals from all different kinds of fabric. She has been doing this business with her sister for the last year. They plan to sue the loan to buy a specific type of fabric. They hope to have their own large-scale doll and stuffed animal business. She is single and lives in her grandparent's house with her other relatives. She has been chosen as a representative by her village bank because she is young and a dynamic worker.
Señora Juana has been active and dynamic in the group's formation and has been chosen as secretary. She sells fruit in the Villa San Antonio Alto market. She will use the loan to invest in a variety of merchandise so that she can better serve her clients. She is married to Señor Victor and has one son named Pedro.
All the women are very thankful for Emprender and Kiva for their confidence and providing this loan.
