Rene's story

René is a young taxi driver. He is very well known in his work because he knows the city’s various neighborhoods very well and can offer very good taxi service. His wife, Elena, is a nurse and they have two, school-aged children. They live in the Alto Pampahasi neighborhood. (The Pampahasi area, located on the east side of the city, is considered to be a residential and tourist area. It has grown dramatically in the last nine years, which has meant improved living conditions for its approximately 30.000 residents).

From the entrance to the area, a point called Segundo Cruce, abutting Villa San Antonio, one can see imposing buildings that are up to four storeys tall, many of them with finished facades, as well as wide, paved streets; added to this are planters and recreational areas.

The area encompasses 16 neighborhoods in three sectors: Bajo Pampahasi (Illimani-San Juan), Centro (Cancha Venus) and Alto (Said-Cruz Pata, ex SAMAPA and La Guardia).

It has 11 educational establishments: one private, two church run and the rest are public. It has three markets, the main one being 10 de Noviembre, located in Pampahasi Central, which is 20 minutes from city center.

René has been in this line of work for more than five years. He is asking for funding to replace the transmission gear box on his taxi because it has had a few problems recently. He hopes to repair his taxi as soon as possible so that he can continue to work as he has done so to date.
