Shamim akhtar is a 38-year-old married lady. She lives in a city called Vehari, Pakistan with her family. Her family consists of eight persons including her five daughters and one son. Her eldest daughter has completed her education up to 10th standard. Then, she decided to start a clothes-sewing business with Shamim. The other kids are enrolled in school and are getting an education.
Shamim's husband's name is K. H. and he has a timber-selling business. He has been in this business for the past 2 years. She has successfully completed two loans from Asasah (a microfinance institute in Pakistan). From her first loan she increased her sewing business by buying her sewing machine. She took out her second loan for her husband’s timber-selling business. Now she is requesting a loan again to enhance his business by buying timber in bulk.
Shamim is also the group leader for three other women from her locality. Zubaida Khanum baji wants a loan to buy bakery items (biscuits, bread, butter) for her bakery. Naseem akhtar baji wants a loan to buy wood to sell. Manzooran baji wants a loan to buy groceries for her grocery shop.
