Egidia is 39 years old. She was raised by her grandmother. She always motivated her to study; her grandmother said that this way she would have a better future. She studied to the eighth grade.
She got married when she was 16. Her life changed because her husband was very attentive to her. He fulfilled his responsibilities at home, did not send her to work in the countryside, and respected her much as his wife.
She became aware of the Chajulense Association of Women United for Life credit opportunities because her sister-in-law was part of a group, and she told her about her experience.
This year Egidia will get her sixth loan. The first two loans were invested in buying and selling coffee and maize; from the third through the sixth loan, she has invested in her thread store. This year she will buy thread and make improvements in the store.
Egidia is the leader of Las Florecitas 2; the group is integrated by six women, all of the Ixil Maya ethnicity. The group will use their loan for textile 66%, agriculture 17% and retail 17%. On average, each member of the group has 4 children; the average age of the members of the group is 30 years old. 49% are illiterate, 17% studied to the eighth grade, 17% are Bachilleres, 11th grade, and 17% teachers, 12th grade.
