A loan helped purchase rice, sugar, salt, oil, pasta and personal care products to stock her grocery store.

Rosa Amleia's story

The El Paraíso communal bank is found in Cumbe parish to the southeast of the city of Cuenca. It’s know for it’s large cattle and milk production. The adults also work in agriculture. The young people have mostly migrated to the big cities of Ecuador or out of the country looking for better days for the whole family. That is why we can observe many extensions of land abandoned since there isn’t anyone to work it. This is why we now find the women grouped in work groups to get ahead on their own land.

Rosa G. is a member of this bank. She is a woman who always fills us with her joy at each moment. She is in her second cycle with the communal bank. She has had a small grocery store for the past 8 years. She has worked every day from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. She tells us there are good days and bad days but she always thanks God for the daily work. She also raises and sells chickens which she does from her own home.

She lives in Cumbre parish, section 24 of Mayo Alto. She is 33 years old. She is married but lives alone with her two children who are 14 and 11 years old. Her husband migrated from the country three years ago to offer them a better education and economic stability. Thanks to work and the support of her husband, she now has her own house. She will stock her grocery store buying rice, sugar, oil, personal care products, etc. with the loan she applied for.

Her biggest dream is that her husband returns so the family is all together.
