Rabboni's story

This loan may have a higher risk but higher impact. Learn more here.

The Problem
Maize farmers in Uganda are locked into a vicious cycle of poverty. During harvest season, prices of their crop plummet, and they are offered barely enough to break-even. Small holder farmers do not have access to proper storage facilities for their grain, so they are only able to sell 40% of the total maize produced. Most farmers market their maize individually to traders who aggregate and sell to large millers over the course of the season.Trade is largely informal and unregulated.

The Solution
Rabboni is deliberately focused on catalyzing rural socio-economic transformation for farmers in Uganda by providing a reliable market and equitable prices for agro-commodities, empowering smallholder farmers to consistently grow their farm enterprises, and providing globally competitive products.
Rabboni offers farmers 10-20% premium price over the prevailing market price. They also offer village collection centers to farmers to reduce their transaction costs associated with evacuating the maize. Rabboni also works with farmers on adoption and training of new technologies that increase the quality of their grain.

The Impact
Rabboni offers fair trading prices and catalyses productive growth for more than 2,200 Ugandan maize producers annually. With your help, they can expand to reach more farmers in the market who are locked in poverty.
