Thirty-one-year-old Mayra is the Secretary of the Friendship Bridge Trust Bank “Flor Cauquense” in the department/state of Chimaltenango. She attended school for 9 years and understands that education is vital to a successful future, and sends each of her 3 children (5-12) to school.
Mayra has several custom textile orders and needs funds to buy essential supplies for the business. She is requesting a her 2nd Kiva loan to buy high quality thread in various colors.
The women in the group have small textile and farming businesses (carrots, beets, radishes). At their monthly meetings, they learn about essential business management practices like planning, budgeting, investing and savings, as well as the dangers of over-indebtedness. They also acquire information about health, hygiene, nutrition and the use of medicinal plants. As they learn, they become more empowered and feel more confident making decisions about their businesses, their families and themselves. Knowledge is power and the Friendship Bridge “Microcredit Plus” program of loans, education and healthcare is a recipe for their success!
Thank you to each Kiva investor who funds loans for women like Mayra and her friends. They are poised to step into a brighter future benefiting themselves, their families and their community in Chimaltenango, Guatemala!
