Joao Tene Samuel's story

João Tene Samuel M. was born in Massinga district in the province of Inhambane, in southern Mozambique. He is 45 years old, and the father of five children who are 21, 12, 9, 7 and 2 years old. Only four of them go to school. João only finished the fifth grade, and didn't continue because he lost his parents when he was very young. He lives with his family in his own house, and has no other dependents.

He left Inhambane for Maputo in 1978 with his family in search of better living conditions. He has lived in the town of Boane since his arrival in the province of Maputo. He has worked as a light machine operator for the Mozambique Railroads Company for over 19 years, learning his trade at the same company. He earns a monthly salary of 7150 MZN., with which he pays his household expenses as well as saving some in his bank account.

He has never held loans from other banks, and learned about Hluvuku through friends who are also clients of the organization. This is his third loan, for 16000 MZN., with which he plans to buy construction material (galvanized roofing, cement, steel doors and rebar) in order to continue building his house. The earlier loans were for 7000 MZN. and 15000 MZN., and were both for the same purpose. He would like to apply for future loans in order to complete his residence and provide more comfort for his family.
