I was born and raised outside of Chicago to a college professor and a funeral home director. As the youngest of four children and two parents who were still actively trying to advance their careers, I had a unique perspective of what hard work gets you. It also taught me that just because you work hard does not guarantee success. When I was in preschool, my father was laid off from his finance job. Watching my parents manage finances while my dad switched careers is something that always stuck with me and made me want to be two steps ahead of any potential downfall.
At a young age, I had an entrepreneurial spirit. My mom loves to tell the story of how I used to sell candy and gel pens in elementary school. She called me a hustler; I felt I was leveraging supply and demand. This trait never really left me as I continued to find ways to bring in an income even in college where I would host parties to pay rent or provide airport rides before ride-sharing existed.
I opened homiey because I was at a point in my life where my career could go anywhere, but I wanted to do something that would help others. The Fruitvale district is located in East Oakland and is one of the last ungentrified neighborhoods. I aim to create a space where black and brown entrepreneurs can work and showcase their talents.

We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
