A loan helped a member to buy, plant, and grow coffee plants.

Las Palmeras 1 Group's story

Catarina is 49 years old. She lived her childhood with her parents, has three siblings, and is the youngest sister. She married her husband at the age of 20, and they have three children.

She got information about the credit opportunities of the Chajulense Association of Women United for Life, because a neighbor told her. This year she will get her third credit. With her first two credits she invested in threads for elaborate and typical tissue sales. This year she will buy, plant, and grow coffee plants.

The income obtained with her credits has helped with their family expenses, and let her support her children's education.

Catarina is the leader of Las Palmeras 1. The group is composed of five women, all from the Ixil Maya ethnicity. The group will use their loan for textiles (40%), agriculture (20%), and retail (40%).
