The Communal Bank “Kushka Puririsun” consists of eleven members who starting their third loan cycle. They are hard workers who look at each moment as an opportunity to get ahead. With great effort, they seek every day to proviD. a better future for their children. The members live in the City of Urubamba in the Department of Cusco. It is a city known for its beautiful landscapes, its agriculture, and its livestock. Urubamba is located an hour and fifteen minutes away from the City of Cusco. The members engage in different business activities such as selling food, groceries, and “anticuchos” (skewered meats). Other members proviD. housekeeping services and public transportation. They are concerned about their declining sales because their buyers are tied directly to tourism. Because of the heavy rains that hit the area for three consecutive days, many tourists canceled their travel reservations into Cusco. Tourism has declined significantly.
Patricia is a member of the “Kushka Puririsun” Communal Bank. She is 23 years old, in a common law marriage, and has two dependent children (Marco Antonio and Maria Fernanda). Patricia sells “salchipapas” (sausages and fried potatoes) and “pollipapas” (chicken and fried potatoes) from a pushcart. She travels along the streets between 3pm and 11pm to sell her dishes. Patricia is requesting a loan to buy chicken, potatoes, and rice.
The members, in general, are grateful for this opportunity provided to them. They promise to submit their payments on the established due dates.
