A loan helped to buy farming inputs to improve her banana crop production and harvest.

Bessy's story

Mother’s day is this month and Juhudi Kilimo would like to celebrate mothers who sacrifice a lot for their families.

Bessy is a 35-year-old mom of 2 school-going children. She lives in an isolated village in the Maua region of Kenya. This region is normally faced with irregular rainfall patterns. Bessy has always wanted to make her life better than that of generations that were ahead of her. She is blessed with lovely children who are her greatest motivation. She perseveres because she wants to provide a better future for them. Her primary sources of income are milk, bananas, and different crops from her farm.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of an agricultural revolution. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement on inputs availability than earlier before.

Bessy is seeking this loan to buy farming inputs such as nutrient-rich fertilizers to improve her banana crop production and harvest. She will eventually use the profits to pay school fees for her children. She considers this loan a path out of poverty. Kindly lend to this ambitious woman.

Kindly give hope this season!

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
