The Communal Bank “Allin Warmikuna” (which means “Good Women” in Quecha) is starting its third loan cycle with 21 members. They are engaged in different businesses selling grain, natural medicines, vegetables, bread, jewelry, clothing, food, cosmetics, hardware, and transportation services.
Such is the case with Sra. Leila, who is 46 years old, married, and has four children. She and her husband operate a recreation center called “Natali” that has a swimming pool. Leila also sells sweets and prepared foods. She needs a loan of 900 soles in order to buy rice, meat, and candy.
Reynilda is 40 years old and has two children. She operates a glassware shop from a rented location and also sells hardware at the regional fairs. Reynilda needs a loan of 450 soles in order to buy metal sheeting.
The members need different loan amounts ranging from 300 soles, 600 soles, 750 soles, up to 1000 soles, for grand total of 13,200 soles to the entire Communal Bank. They will use the money to buy rice, sugar, meat, metal sheeting, grain, small animals, vegetables, and cosmetics. The members dream of expanding their businesses, helping their children become professionals, and acquiring their own homes.
