A loan helped to buy quality farming inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, which this mom plans to use on her farm to improve her production in 2019.

Nancy's story

Mother’s Day is fast approaching next month (May) and Juhudi would like to celebrate Nancy a mother. She is a 43-year-old mom and a happy woman who often times bursts out in laughter. Her enormous contribution in uplifting her family out of abject poverty shows what a remarkable woman she is, given the societal odds. Nancy has been a dairy and mixed farmer for many years, and throughout this period she has made her life meaningful.

In Kenya, agriculture is one of the most competitive industries, especially due to the high costs of operations necessary to improve farming. Such costs include the cost of land acquisition and inputs which have always skyrocketed. To meet the high costs of inputs farmers have been forced to borrow from financial institutions, which sometimes impose very complicated procedures in loans distribution. Some farmers, especially women, end up in hopelessness and despondency, lacking the morale to invest in agriculture.

Nancy has taken this loan so that she can use it to buy quality farming inputs such as certified seeds and nutrient-rich fertilizers, which she plans to use on her farm. With these inputs, Nancy will be assured of a good harvest, which will consequently reflect in her pocket. With this loan, Nancy will change her life in 2019.

Light up a spirit this 2019 mother’s day celebration!
