Farming really is our passion. Farming is how I am able to be a small business owner in our community. It's how I am able to steward the land we call our own. Finally owning our own land is a culmination of a collective 10 years between my husband Steven and I working towards this goal. Stevens background is originally in cooking and that passion for great food led him to farming in search of great ingredients. That time in kitchens gave him a drive and work ethic that matches the intensity of farming, but also a great interest in growing and eating vegetables that taste great. My family has a farming history, but also a history of leaving the farm for better opportunities. Seeing the struggle that was and is dairy farming formed how I viewed agriculture, as hard and possibly heart breaking. As an adult I finally had the opportunity to learn and work on farms that paired my ideals of being a good steward of the land but also commitment to quality of life for the farmers. We offer some Lending Partners the option to protect themselves against currency fluctuations by choosing to pass on these losses to Kiva lenders. By bearing this risk, lenders protect the partner and its borrowers from catastrophic currency devaluations and contribute to the sustainability of their operations.
Potential for currency exchange loss is noted on every loan profile under the loan details:
"Yes" means the Lending Partner will cover any currency loss. Lenders will not bear losses due to currency fluctuation
"Partial" means that the Lending Partner has opted to cover losses only up to 10%. If the U.S. dollar appreciates more than 10% against the local currency, those losses will be passed onto lenders.
"No" means that the Lending Partner is not covering any currency losses and all losses will be passed onto lenders.
