A loan helped to buy a dairy cow.

Peter's story

Peter is 35 years old and married. He has one child, age 6, who currently attends school. He is a farmer in the South Rift Valley, near Litein, Kenya, and has two employees currently working for him. He's been farming for over nine years and sells milk, eggs, pineapples, maize, and tea. In addition to his farm, Peter also owns and helps run a medical clinic. He says that the main challenges to his farming business are the expensive farm inputs and feeds, and that markets are sometimes not available for his produce.

Peter requested this loan through Juhudi Kilimo for KES 65,000 to purchase a dairy cow. He says that the extra income from this loan will increase the family's income and make it easier to pay school fees for his child. In the future, he would like to improve on his dairy breeds for better milk production, and he also hopes that market conditions will stabilize in his area.

Peter is grateful Juhudi Kilimo is focusing on the rural poor who would otherwise have limited or no access to capital. He likes the funding for dairy cows as it is not just for financial purposes but also for social purposes, as it improves the health of families.
