A loan helped to buy farming inputs such as certified seeds and high nutrient fertilizers to improve her output, make more sales revenue and raise the living standard of her family.

Magdaline's story

Magdaline (a 37–year-old mom of 4 children and among the 4 children 2 are school-going) made a firm decision a few years ago that has kept her family together up to today. She chose to engage in farming and stopped looking for white-collar jobs. Today, she runs very successful enterprises farming dairy and crops.

Magdaline is the breadwinner of her household. Access to modern, quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural innovation. However, in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizers and seeds allocated by the government are way below the needs of farmers. Since Juhudi Kilimo, which is in partnership with Kiva, ventured in the affairs of small-holder farmers in Kenya, farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in input availability.

Although Magdaline earns revenue from farming, not everything has been easy for this modest and productive mother. Her farm has not been producing such a large harvest lately due to a lack of fertilizer and good seeds. That is why Magdaline is taking out this loan to buy quality farming inputs such as good, certified seeds and high-quality fertilizers.

With this loan, Magdaline will be assured of a good harvest. This will translate into more profits and income. She wants a healthy lifestyle for her family, just like any other caring mother. Together with her hubby, Magdaline is very thankful for your warm consideration and help.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
