A loan helped to buy inputs to improve her farm and make more profits so she can pay school fees for her children.

Beatrice's story

Beatrice (pictured in her simple house) is a self-driven mother who believes she has what it takes to make a difference in her remote village and farm. Her family is the greatest thing in her life and makes her feel accomplished. She started practicing mixed farming a few years ago because of her zeal and drive.

Access to modern-quality farm inputs is the pillar of agricultural revolution. However in Kenya, a developing country, fertilizer and seed allocation by the government is way below the needs of farmers. Farmers can attest that there has been a significant improvement in farm input availability since Juhudi Kilimo, in partnership with Kiva, ventured into the affairs of smallholder farmers in Kenya.

Beatrice is borrowing this loan to buy inputs to improve her farm. Increased output will result in increased income. Beatrice will use this income to repay her loan, pay school fees for her children and improve the lifestyle of her family. She anticipates a better harvest this season after obtaining this Kiva loan.

Beatrice is very grateful in advance.

This loan is special because:

It finances smallholder farmers to purchase dairy cows, chickens, cereals and farming equipment.
